Chapter 4 - Shadows in the Cabin

Maya keyed the internal interphone. "Elena. Front galley. Cockpit door, now."
The purser entered immediately, her face pale. She saw Captain Vance unconscious and gasped, clamping a hand over her mouth.
"Check his vitals, administer oxygen, and get the off-duty emergency physician who offered help earlier to examine both pilots," Maya ordered without turning her head. Her hands maintained steady, corrective pressure on the yoke, feeling every buffet of the Atlantic jet stream. "And listen to me carefully. Does anyone have access to the forward cargo compartment or the lower avionics bay?"
Elena swallowed hard. "No... wait. In First Class, seat 2A. A man traveling under a corporate pass requested access to the forward closet twice, claiming his medical equipment bag was stored in the ceiling locker. He had an airline badge, said he was a deadheading maintenance avionics technician."
"What did he look like?"
"Tall. Silver hair, scar on his jaw. Wearing a gray suit."
Maya’s jaw clenched. The memory surfaced with terrifying clarity: *Marcus Kane*. The lead civilian software contractor from Project Zephyr. He had evaded congressional subpoenas and disappeared abroad after her wingman’s death.
"He’s not maintaining anything," Maya said quietly. "He’s testing a localized cyber-kill switch for an unregistered avionics payload. If we crash in the ocean, it’s labeled an unexplained catastrophic system failure. The telemetry gets buried at the bottom of the Atlantic."
"What do we do?" Elena whispered, trembling.
Maya thought of Leo sleeping soundly in row 8A, clutching his small blue blanket.
May you like
"You keep the passengers calm," Maya said, her voice turning like tempered steel. "And you bring me that man."
