CHAPTER 4: THE SON SHE LOST

Four months later.

A baby boy entered the world healthy and strong.

Santiago cried the moment he held him.

Lucía laughed through her tears.

After everything they had survived, the sound of their son's first cry felt like a miracle.

Meanwhile, Mercedes sat alone inside a small apartment awaiting trial.

Most relatives had cut contact.

Church friends stopped calling.

Even people who once defended her no longer believed her stories.

For years she had controlled everyone through fear.

Now she had no one left.

One afternoon, she received a letter.

Her hands trembled as she opened it.

Inside was a single photograph.

Santiago.

Lucía.

And her grandson.

Smiling together.

No message.

No insults.

No revenge.

Just a photograph.

Mercedes stared at it for a long time.

Then she finally understood.

She had spent so much time trying to possess her family that she destroyed her place within it.

Back at home, Lucía rocked her son to sleep.

Santiago wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

“Are you happy?” he asked.

She looked at their child.

At their home.

At the peaceful life they had almost lost.

Then she smiled.

“Yes.”

Outside, rain softly tapped against the windows.

Inside, their family was finally safe.

The forged papers were gone.

The threats were over.

The nightmare had ended.

And Lucía realized something she would never forget:

The day she believed she had lost her husband was terrible.

But the day she discovered who truly loved her—and who only wanted control—changed her life forever.

THE END.
