Chapter 10 - The Epilogue of GraceTwo years later, the autumn leaves were falling once again, turning the streets of Chicago into a glowing carpet of gold and crimson.

We stood on the sunlit steps of a historic chapel overlooking Lake Michigan. It was a small, intimate ceremony attended only by our closest friends, Sarah, Dr. Marcus Reed—who had become a dear family friend—and a few trusted colleagues who had stood by us through the storm.

I wore a simple, elegant ivory silk dress that moved like water in the breeze. Lily stood beside me as my junior bridesmaid, holding a basket of autumn rose petals with immense pride.

As Aaron stood at the altar in a tailored dark navy suit, waiting for me with that familiar, steady, loving gaze, I took a slow, deep breath of the crisp lake air.

I thought back to the freezing, sterile courtroom where my life had shattered into a million pieces. I remembered the harsh buzzing of the fluorescent lights, the cruel sneers of Daniel and Patricia, the terror of my legs giving out beneath me, and the dark abyss of poison and betrayal.

If someone had told me on that exact day that I would find myself standing here—surrounded by genuine love, wrapped in safety, holding the hand of a man who honored my soul—I would have called it a fairy tale.

Yet here it was. Real, solid, and enduring.

“Do you, Mabel, take this man to be your lawful wedded husband, to walk with him through every storm, and to share in every joy?” the minister asked softly.

I looked into Aaron’s dark, unwavering eyes, feeling the absolute truth settle deep inside my bones.

“I do,” I said clearly, my voice ringing out across the chapel with absolute certainty.

When Aaron slid the platinum band onto my finger and leaned in to kiss me, the applause that rose from our small circle of loved ones felt like a benediction.

We had survived the worst the world could throw at us. We had walked through fire, purged the poison, and built a sanctuary of light from the ashes.

As we walked back down the aisle together, hand in hand, with Lily skipping ahead and scattering gold petals across our path, I knew the truest lesson of my life:

No matter how dark the night gets, and no matter how deep the trap they set for you, a soul that refuses to break can always build a brand new dawn.
