Chapter 8 - The Fall of the House of Moretti

The emergency board meeting called by Julian Moretti at 2:00 PM did not go the way Julian had planned.

It wasn't Vincent Moretti who was removed from the chairmanship.

As the mahogany doors of the grand boardroom closed behind twelve solemn, nervous board members, Sal Marcone placed a thick dossier of internal compliance reports in front of every plate. The documents detailed three years of unauthorized high-risk real estate investments, hidden losses, and corporate fund redirection orchestrated entirely by Julian Moretti and his secret associates—including Dominic Rossi—designed to artificially inflate quarterly profits and undermine Vincent’s authority.

Julian sat at the end of the long table, pale, sweating, and entirely stripped of his usual arrogant composure.

“You embezzled from our municipal logistics subsidiaries to fund speculative commercial land buys on the South Side,” Vincent said quietly, standing at the head of the table. He didn't yell. He didn't slam his fists. His voice was as cold and flat as a slab of winter granite. “You risked the livelihood of two thousand union workers just so you could prove to the board that you were smarter than your old man.”

“It was strategic growth, Father!” Julian stammered, his voice cracking. “The board knows the future of Moretti Holdings is in commercial real estate—!”

“The board knows nothing of the kind,” interrupted Thomas Vance, the elderly senior voting member of the board, who adjusted his glasses and pushed Julian’s dossier away in disgust. “What you did, Julian, was violate federal securities regulations and breach your fiduciary duty to this family. As of this moment, I move for an immediate vote of no confidence and a total termination of Julian Moretti’s executive partnership.”

Hands went up around the mahogany table almost instantly.

Twelve hands. Unanimous.

Julian sat frozen in his chair, staring at the raised hands as if the world had ended. His career, his reputation, his inheritance—everything he had schemed, plotted, and backstabbed for over a decade—had vanished in less than ten minutes.

“Pack your office, Julian,” Vincent said, turning his back on his son. “Your car is downstairs. Don't ever step foot in this building again.”

As the board members filed out of the room in tense silence, Emily Carter walked in carrying a leather binder containing the updated operational restructuring plans.

She stopped near the doorway as Julian pushed past her, his face twisted in a mask of pure, venomous hatred. He leaned down, whispering in her ear as he passed.

“Enjoy your little victory, waitress,” Julian hissed. “You’re nothing more than a placeholder. My father will chew you up and spit you out the moment he doesn't need you anymore.”

Emily didn't flinch. She turned her head slightly, looking him dead in the eye.

May you like

“Maybe,” Emily replied smoothly. “But unlike you, I didn't build my house out of glass.”

Julian slammed the heavy oak doors behind him, exiting Moretti Holdings—and the family empire—forever.
