Chapter 6 - The Broken Cage

The distant sound of sirens wailing through the rainy night grew louder, signaling that local authorities and backup syndicates had finally broken through the blockade outside.

Dante stood up slowly from the floor. His hands were stained with blood, his breathing heavy, his broad shoulders trembling with the aftermath of a lethal storm.

For a long moment, he didn't turn around. He stood staring down at the marble floor where Julian lay motionless, the architect of his family’s destruction finally eradicated.

Then, slowly, Dante turned around.

At the other end of the corridor, Clara was kneeling on the floor, clutching her bleeding shoulder with one hand while holding Sophia tightly against her side with the other.

Dante’s fierce, hardened gaze swept over them, landing on his daughter.

He took a slow, heavy step forward, dropping to his knees on the marble just a few feet away from them. The man who commanded armies, controlled ports, and ruled the underground with an iron fist looked suddenly fragile—broken by the realization of what his own blood had done to his child.

“Sophie...” Dante whispered, his deep voice cracking for the first time in his life. He reached out a trembling, blood-stained hand, hesitating as if afraid she would vanish like smoke. “Did... did you just speak?”

Sophia slowly lifted her head from Clara’s shoulder.

The amber eyes that had been locked behind a wall of terrifying silence for three long years now shone with clarity, release, and profound, unshakeable courage.

She looked at her father. Then, she looked down at Clara, who gave her a reassuring, tear-filled smile.

Sophia turned back to Dante.

She raised her small hand, pointing a trembling finger directly at her father’s chest—not with anger, but with a fierce, demanding insistence that he understand.

“Daddy,” Sophia said.

The word was small, clear, and steady.

Dante let out a ragged, broken gasp. A single tear cut a clean path through the grime and sweat on his hardened cheek, spilling over his jawline. He lunged forward, wrapping his massive arms around Sophia and Clara both, pulling them into a fierce, suffocating embrace that shielded them from the entire dark world outside.

“I’m here,” Dante sobbed quietly into his daughter’s hair, his voice muffled against her shoulder. “I’m here, baby. You never have to be quiet again. Daddy’s got you.”

May you like

Clara rested her head against Dante’s shoulder, closing her eyes as the distant flashing blue lights of the police cruisers painted the high stone windows in shifting shades of sapphire and shadow.

The nightmare was over. The silence was broken.
