Chapter 10 - The Empire of Two

Three months later, the spring sun over Manhattan was warm, brilliant, and unburdened by the ghosts of the past.

The Blackwood estate looked entirely different. The cold, intimidating iron gates had been softened by new landscaping, the East Wing dormitories had been completely renovated into comfortable modern apartments for the domestic staff, and the oppressive cloud of fear that once hung over the mansion had been replaced by genuine, earned respect.

Inside the private executive office on the forty-fifth floor of the Blackwood Tower, the city glittered below like a scattered circuit board of glass and steel.

Ivy Lancaster sat behind the massive mahogany executive desk—not as a maid, not as an assistant, but as the Chief Executive Officer of Blackwood Enterprises. Her nameplate was carved in clean, elegant brass: Ivy Lancaster, Managing Partner.

The heavy double doors swung open.

Ronan walked in, wearing a sharp charcoal suit without a tie, carrying two cups of black coffee. He set one down on her desk, leaning his hip against the edge of the wood, watching her with a warm, unwavering gaze.

“The South Jersey port acquisition papers just cleared the federal regulatory board,” Ronan noted, a faint smile playing on his lips. “We officially own the entire Atlantic shipping corridor from Boston to Miami.”

Ivy looked up from her financial models, taking a sip of the coffee. “Which means our regional logistics revenue is going to increase by forty percent before the end of the fiscal year.”

“Which also means,” Ronan continued, reaching into his breast pocket and pulling out a small, dark velvet box, “you’ve officially built an empire stronger and cleaner than anything my family built in three generations.”

He set the velvet box on the desk and flipped open the brass clasp.

Inside, resting against black silk, wasn't a flashing yellow diamond meant to flaunt wealth at high-society galas. It was a stunning, custom-crafted platinum ring set with a band of interwoven antique silver and a single, flawless sapphire—designed to match the resilience, depth, and unwavering strength of the woman who had changed his world forever.

Ivy’s breath caught. She looked up into his deep, dark eyes, seeing all the walls he had torn down and all the trust he had placed in her hands.

“Ronan...” she whispered, her voice trembling slightly.

“You carried my syndicate through a war without shedding a drop of unnecessary blood, Ivy,” Ronan said, his voice dropping into an intimate, steady hum that filled the quiet office. “You are my partner, my equal, and my home. Will you spend the rest of your life running this empire by my side?”

Ivy didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.

She stood up from her chair, her eyes shining with absolute peace and fierce, unyielding joy.

“Yes, Ronan,” she smiled, slipping the sapphire ring onto her finger. “Let’s build something they can never tear down.”
