Chapter 8 - The Federal Raid

“FBI! FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS!”

A dozen tactical officers in full black body armor swarmed through the front entrance, rifles raised, laser sights painting the walls in geometric grids of red light. Behind them strode Agent Marcus Thorne of the federal organized crime division, flanked by local state police and emergency medical technicians.

Elena spun around in absolute shock, her face turning the color of chalk. “What is the meaning of this?! This is private property—”

“Elena Rossi, you are under arrest for kidnapping, false imprisonment, aggravated assault, and human trafficking,” Agent Thorne announced, stepping forward with a pair of steel handcuffs gleaming in his hand.

“This is a family matter!” Elena shrieked, thrashing as two federal agents grabbed her arms and slammed her wrists into the cuffs. “You cannot touch me! I am the matriarch of the Rossi estate!”

“Your reign is over, Mrs. Rossi,” Thorne replied coldly. He turned his attention toward me and the fragile figure of Grace standing in the hallway.

“Dante Rossi?”

“I’m here,” I said, lowering my gun slowly and placing it on the marble entry table before raising my hands.

“We received an anonymous tip early this morning containing encrypted audio logs, medical records from a secret underground surgical ward, and coordinates for this estate,” Thorne said, looking at me with sharp, calculating eyes. “An anonymous tip from someone inside your own staff who couldn't stomach what your mother was doing.”

I turned my head and looked toward the library doors.

Salvatore the old butler was standing quietly in the shadows, nodding once with a somber, respectful dip of his head.

He had been the one who sent the encrypted package to the feds. He had been the one waiting for me to come home and open the door.

“Get the medical team inside immediately!” I shouted to the paramedics rushing past us with a stretcher. “My wife needs emergency care! And trace every secure communication line connected to this estate—my mother sent my newborn son away to a safe house in Switzerland this morning. Find him!”

Agent Thorne nodded firmly. “Already on it, Dante. Interpol intercepted the private courier flight over the Alps twenty minutes ago. Your son is safe.”
