Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The following spring, the Callaway estate looked entirely different.

The white roses Camille had chosen for Andre’s birthday two years ago now bloomed in vibrant, cascading clusters along every garden trellis and stone pathway across the thirty acres. The oppressive shadow that had hung over the property for decades had finally lifted, replaced by the sound of laughter, open doors, and genuine peace.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the grand ballroom was filled once again—not with fearful politicians or high-society phonies whispering behind crystal champagne flutes, but with local community leaders, scholarship recipients, close friends, and members of the foundation staff celebrating the estate's annual charity gala.

There were no riding crops. There were no hidden threats. There was only music, light, and life.

Camille stood near the center of the ballroom, wearing a breathtaking, flowing emerald silk gown that caught the spring light with every step. She was no longer the quiet, invisible bride standing in the shadow of a tyrant. She was the anchor, the majority owner, and the heart of the entire dynasty.

Andre walked up behind her, handing her a glass of sparkling cider, his eyes filled with quiet pride as he watched her interact with the guests.

“You know,” Andre said softly, clinking his glass gently against hers. “If someone had told me five years ago that my quiet, unassuming wife would end up dismantling my family’s entire criminal syndicate and rebuilding our empire from the ground up... I probably would have laughed.”

Camille smiled, taking a sip of the cider and looking out across the crowded, joyous room.

“And if someone had told me I’d fall in love with a billionaire who needed to learn how to stand up to his mother,” Camille replied with a witty spark in her dark eyes, “I probably would have run the other way.”

Andre laughed—a rich, booming sound that echoed warmly through the grand ballroom.

“Well,” Andre said, pulling her close against his side as the jazz quartet began to play a slow, elegant melody. “I’m very glad you didn't run.”

“So am I, Mr. Callaway,” Camille whispered, resting her head against his shoulder as they stepped out onto the dance floor together. “So am I.”
