Chapter 10 - The View from the PorchTwo weeks later, the mansion was quiet again.

The security gates had been repaired—upgraded to military-grade titanium alloy—and the local authorities had quietly swept the cartel raid under a rug of municipal corruption and offshore bribes. Héctor Morales was currently residing in a federal black site interrogation facility three states away.

The morning sun poured through the kitchen windows, casting a warm, golden glow across the marble countertops.

Adrian sat at the island, drinking his black coffee, watching Claire flip blueberry pancakes with her usual effortless precision. Upstairs, Ethan and Noah were laughing as they packed their backpacks for school.

Adrian stood up, walked over to the counter, and stopped just behind her.

He didn't say a word. He simply wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her flush against his chest, resting his chin comfortably on her broad, strong shoulder.

Claire paused, the spatula hovering over the griddle. A soft, genuine smile spread across her face.

“You’re going to make me burn the pancakes, Mr. Mercer,” she teased quietly.

“Let them burn,” Adrian murmured, turning her gently in his arms so she was facing him, his dark eyes shining with a warmth and devotion he hadn't allowed himself to feel in over a decade. “I have everything I need right here.”

Claire reached up, her soft, strong hands resting against the lapels of his tailored suit jacket, her gaze steady and full of unshakeable peace.

“You know,” Claire whispered with a playful glint in her hazel eyes, “my contract says I’m just a nanny. It doesn't say anything about being a bodyguard, a tactical instructor, or a permanent fixture in your kitchen.”

Adrian leaned down, his lips brushing softly against hers in a slow, lingering kiss that tasted like home, safety, and a brand-new beginning.

“Then we’ll rewrite the contract,” Adrian whispered against her lips. “Indefinitely.”
