Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece Kept Safe
A year later, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts hosted a landmark exhibition celebrating historical textile arts of the Northeast.
At the center of the grand gallery, displayed in a custom-lit, climate-controlled glass case protected by state-of-the-art security, sat the centerpiece of the entire collection:
A 1924 Valenciennes lace wedding veil, meticulously restored, featuring a subtle, modern golden thread interwoven along its edges where an old scar had been turned into art.
Beneath the display plaque, a small inscription read:
Restored by Cora Vance. Preserved by the Vance Family Foundation.
On a quiet Sunday afternoon, long after the museum crowds had thinned out and the galleries had grown dim, two figures stood alone before the glass case.
Cora leaned her head gently against Julian’s shoulder, her hand resting comfortably in his.
"Do you think your mother would like how it turned out?" Cora asked softly, watching the light catch the fine, restored threads.
Julian wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer against him, his eyes reflecting the warm golden glow of the display.
