Chapter 6 - The Dynastic Siege

By dawn, the quiet clinic street was blocked by two black SUVs.

Michael Hayes walked through the front door, flanked by his mother, Evelyn, and an attorney in a thousand-dollar suit. Michael looked pristine—tailored cashmere coat, polished shoes—but his eyes flared when he saw me standing behind the reception desk.

"Sarah?" Michael scoffed in disbelief. "You? He ended up here?"

"You need to leave, Michael," I said calmly.

Evelyn stepped forward, her diamond rings catching the fluorescent lights. "Stop this melodramatic nonsense. Hand our grandson over. He had an accident in the garden, and you are harboring him unlawfully."

"He didn't have an accident," I said, walking out from behind the counter. "He has an untreated tibia fracture, third-degree contusions from blunt force, and malnourishment. Did you think paying off private pediatricians would hide it forever?"

"Careful with your slander, Dr. Cole," their attorney interrupted. "Mr. Hayes has sole legal custody. You signed those rights away."

"And you violated every child welfare statute in the state," Detective Ramirez's voice echoed as he stepped out from the back corridor with two uniformed officers. "Michael Hayes, Marcus Vance, we have an emergency warrant for protective removal and questioning regarding felony child endangerment."

Michael's face drained of color. "Do you know who my family is?"

"We know exactly who you are," Ramirez replied, stepping between Michael and the hallway.
