Chapter 8 - The Verdict of Truth

Judge Morrison, a veteran family court judge known for zero tolerance, reviewed the medical files and the security drive in dead silence.
"Mr. Hayes," the judge said, his voice echoing off the wood-paneled walls. "In my thirty years on the bench, rarely have I seen such sickening depravity masquerading as high society."
Evelyn stood up. "Your Honor, this is an orchestrated smear campaign—"
"Sit down, Mrs. Hayes, or I will have bailiffs hold you in contempt immediately," Morrison barked.
He turned to the transcript of Noah's emergency deposition, taken gently by a child psychologist that morning. Noah's recorded voice played softly through the courtroom speakers:
'I just wanted the doctor to fix my leg so Daddy wouldn't throw me away. I saved twelve dollars. I was trying to be good.'
Several clerks in the room wiped away tears. Michael Hayes buried his face in his hands.
"The previous custody order is vacated with prejudice," Judge Morrison ruled. "Michael Hayes and Evelyn Hayes are barred from any contact with the child under a permanent restraining order. Criminal charges of felony child abuse and endangerment are referred immediately to the District Attorney."

The judge looked directly at me.
"Dr. Sarah Cole, temporary emergency custody is granted to you effective immediately, with permanent parental restoration scheduled for formal ratification."
