Chapter 6 - The Gathering StormThe Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was an absolute palace of crystal chandeliers, gilded moldings, and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Central Park.

By 7:00 p.m. the following evening, the grand ballroom was packed to capacity with over five hundred of the wealthiest, most influential business leaders, politicians, and media moguls in the country.

At the center head table sat Harrison Sterling, flanked by senior board members and, sitting right beside him in a breathtaking, custom-designed emerald-green evening gown that mirrored her color choice from the day of the incident, was Victoria Vance.

Victoria played her role to perfection. She dabbed at her dry eyes with a lace handkerchief every time someone offered condolences about the “horrific trauma” little Leo had endured at the hands of their former maid, projecting an image of delicate, traumatized grace that had several elderly board members nearly weeping into their champagne flutes.

High above the ballroom floor, concealed within the technical control booth of the venue’s main AV and broadcast suite, two figures stood bathed in the cool, blue glow of multiple computer monitors.

Elena stood in front of the main mixing console, her fingers trembling slightly as she watched the live security feed of the ballroom on a massive multi-view monitor. She wore a simple, elegant black blazer and trousers—borrowed from a local contact Adrian had arranged—her hair pulled back in a neat, professional braid.

Beside her, Adrian was typing rapidly into a heavily encrypted laptop connected directly to the hotel’s master broadcast router.

“Are you ready?” Adrian asked, not looking up from his screen.

Elena took a deep, steadying breath. She looked at the monitor displaying Harrison Sterling standing up at the podium down in the ballroom, adjusting his microphone to deliver his keynote address to the shareholders and press corps.

“I’ve never been more ready in my life,” Elena said, her voice dropping all hesitation. 🐍

“Good,” Adrian murmured, hitting a final, definitive keystroke on his keyboard. “Because the moment Harrison takes the stage, we override the venue’s main media server. Every screen in this hotel—including the live stream broadcasting across every major news network in the country—is going to switch to our feed.”

Down in the ballroom, Harrison Sterling cleared his throat, tapping the microphone. The feedback echoed softly through the massive hall, instantly silencing the five hundred chatting guests.

“Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed colleagues, and friends,” Harrison began, his deep, resonant voice carrying absolute authority. “Before we discuss our quarterly fiscal projections, I want to address a dark, deeply unfortunate incident that occurred at my family estate earlier this week—an event that tested our resilience, but ultimately reaffirmed the strength and vigilance of our family...”

Victoria Vance sat at the head table, smiling serenely, sipping her champagne.

She had won. The maid was gone, the police report was filed, the narrative was locked in stone, and the Sterling empire remained spotless.

Suddenly, the massive multi-million-dollar LED projector screens behind Harrison flickered violently.

The corporate PowerPoint presentation—detailing logistics revenue and real estate acquisitions—vanished in a flash of static.

The screen went pitch black for one agonizing second.

Then, crystal-clear, high-definition audio and video burst across every screen in the ballroom and across every live-streamed broadcast feed in the country.
