Chapter 7 - The Unmasking“She’s lying, Harrison! I was sitting right inside the French doors. I saw her hand extend—she gave it a deliberate shove!”

Victoria’s voice—shrill, panicked, and unmistakably clear—boomed through the concert-grade acoustic speakers of the Plaza Hotel ballroom, echoing off the gilded ceilings.

In the middle of his sentence, Harrison Sterling froze.

He stopped dead at the podium, his mouth hanging slightly open as he stared back at the massive screen behind him.

The video footage was playing in real-time, unedited, and undeniable. It showed the freak gust of wind hitting the canopy. It showed the stroller rolling independently on the wet tile. It showed Elena dropping her tray and launching herself into a desperate, selfless dive to rescue the child from the water.

And, most damningly of all, it showed Victoria Vance standing inside the sunroom, watching the entire event with a calculated, wicked grin, pulling out her phone to fabricate the accusation before Elena had even surfaced with the drowning baby.

A collective, audible gasp swept through the five hundred guests in the ballroom.

Heads whipped around instantly from the head table toward Victoria Vance.

At the front table, Victoria’s champagne glass slipped from her fingers. It hit the polished mahogany tabletop with a sharp clink, spilling golden liquid across her pristine white napkin as she turned sheet-white, her breath catching in her throat.

“Turn that off!” Victoria shrieked, jumping to her feet, her voice cracking with sudden, hysterical panic. “It’s a deepfake! It’s manipulated footage! Turn it off!”

Harrison slowly turned his head away from the screen, his terrifying, granite gaze locking onto Victoria with a fury that could have melted steel.

“Victoria,” Harrison said, his voice dangerously low, vibrating into the live microphone for the entire room to hear. “What is this?”

“It’s a lie! Harrison, you know me! You know I would never—!” Victoria stammered, backing away from the table as half a dozen reporters in the press gallery raised their cameras, their camera shutters firing like rapid-fire machine guns, capturing every second of her public unraveling.

High above in the broadcast booth, Elena watched the chaos unfold on the monitor, a fierce, cold wave of vindication washing over her chest.

“They’re breaking,” Elena whispered.

Adrian stood beside her, his arms crossed over his chest, his expression dark and satisfied.

“They haven't broken yet,” Adrian replied quietly. “Watch the side doors.”

Down in the ballroom, two uniformed New York City police officers—dispatched via an anonymous, ironclad whistleblower packet Adrian had filed with internal affairs an hour prior—walked briskly through the side entrance of the ballroom, heading straight toward the head table.

Victoria saw them coming.

Panic took over completely. She turned and tried to bolt toward the rear exit, but her expensive designer heels caught on the edge of a velvet carpet seam, and she stumbled hard, crashing against a service cart and sending a stack of silver plates clattering to the floor.

The two police officers reached her instantly, pulling her arms behind her back and slapping cold steel handcuffs around her wrists.

“Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for falsifying a police report, perjury, and conspiracy to commit malicious prosecution,” the lead officer announced loudly, his voice broadcasting clearly through the open microphone system.

As Victoria was hauled out of the ballroom, kicking, screaming, and weeping hysterically into the camera lenses, the entire room erupted into a deafening wall of chaotic murmurs and flashing lights.

Harrison Sterling stood alone at the podium, his face drained of all color, his empire’s pristine reputation shattering into a million pieces right before his eyes.
