Chapter 9 - The Legacy

Three years later.

The global headquarters of HayesTech in Silicon Beach stood as a monument to modern architectural brilliance—glass towers reflecting the blue California sky, surrounded by open research parks, green energy labs, and cutting-edge aerospace hangars.

I walked across the grand central atrium holding the small, warm hand of a three-year-old boy with bright, curious eyes and an unstoppable, adventurous spirit.

His name was Leo Hayes.

He didn't carry Richard’s name; when I filed for the final, absolute dissolution of our marriage, I had successfully petitioned the court to strip away every legal trace of my former husband from my lineage and my son’s birth certificate. Leo was mine, through and through—an heir to an empire built not on deceit, but on absolute resilience and unyielding truth.

“Mommy, look! A helicopter!” Leo squealed, pointing a tiny finger up toward the sky where a sleek corporate transport chopper banked smoothly across the horizon.

I paused, looking up at the aircraft for a brief moment. A faint, knowing smile touched the corners of my lips.

I knelt down, bringing myself eye-level with my son, and adjusted the collar of his little blue jacket.

“That’s right, sweetie,” I said softly, kissing the tip of his nose. “Helicopters are fascinating machines. But you always have to make sure you know who’s flying them.”

May you like

Leo giggled, throwing his arms around my neck and squeezing tight. “I want to fly one with you, Mommy!”

“Someday, little man,” I whispered, standing back up and taking his hand again as we walked toward the executive elevators. “Someday soon.”
