Chapter 10 - THE FINAL DAWN (CHAPTER 10 IN SEQUENCE)

Two weeks.

Fourteen days of absolute hell.

Alessandro had torn Chicago apart searching for her. He had fired Marcus Vance publicly, stripping the lawyer of his pension and blacklisting him from every corporate firm in North America. He had scoured every hotel, every train station, every hospital, and every old contact from her past.

He hadn't slept in three days. He sat in his darkened penthouse office, a glass of untouched scotch on his desk, staring at a photograph of Elizabeth smiling on the balcony, feeling the crushing weight of a man who had won an empire and lost his entire soul.

Then, at 3:00 AM, his phone buzzed on the mahogany desk.

An unknown caller ID.

Alessandro snatched the phone up so fast he nearly dropped it. “Hello?!”

“Mr. Vitali,” a soft, trembling voice came through the speaker. It wasn't Elizabeth. It was Liam Carter.

Alessandro’s grip on the phone tightened until his knuckles turned white. “Carter. Where is she?”

“She’s at Mercy General Hospital downtown,” Liam said quickly, his voice shaking with panic. “She went into premature labor an hour ago due to extreme stress. The doctors are saying... Mr. Vitali, you need to get down here right now.”

The phone went dead.

Twenty minutes later, Alessandro’s Maybach screeched to a halt outside the emergency entrance of Mercy General Hospital. He didn't wait for the driver; he bolted through the automatic sliding doors, flashing his corporate black card at the front desk before sprinting down the sterile white hallway toward the obstetrics wing.

As he reached the delivery room, he found Liam pacing frantically in the corridor.

“Where is she?!” Alessandro demanded, grabbing Liam by the collar of his jacket.

“Inside,” Liam gasped, pointing at the double doors. “She’s been asking for you, you son of a bitch. If she or the baby don't make it—!”

Alessandro shoved past him, bursting through the swinging doors into the sterile, bright delivery room.

Elizabeth was lying on the hospital bed, her face pale, slick with sweat, her chest heaving as she gripped the side rails. Dr. Reséndiz—the same elite obstetrician who had saved Camila months ago—was standing at the foot of the bed, shouting instructions to a team of nurses.

“Her blood pressure is dropping! We need to stabilize her immediately!” the doctor yelled.

Alessandro froze for a fraction of a second, his heart stopping in his chest. Then, he rushed to the side of the bed, ignoring the medical equipment, dropping to his knees right beside her.

“Elizabeth,” he choked out, grabbing her cold, trembling hand and pressing it against his face. “El, I’m here. I’m right here.”

Elizabeth opened her heavy eyes, looking up at him through a blur of tears and exhaustion.

“You... you came,” she whispered, her voice barely a breath.

“I’m never leaving you,” Alessandro vowed, kissing her knuckles repeatedly, tears streaming down his face without a shred of shame. “I fired Marcus. I fired the entire executive board. I rewrote the corporate charter so that you and our child own fifty-one percent of Vitali Holdings. You own me, Elizabeth. Everything I am is yours.”

Elizabeth looked deep into his amber eyes, searching for any trace of the corporate monsters who had destroyed her family—and finding only an endless, unbreakable ocean of love.

A weak, beautiful smile curved her lips.

“I believe you,” she whispered.

“Push, Elizabeth! One more time!” the doctor shouted urgently.

Elizabeth squeezed Alessandro’s hand with every ounce of strength she had left, letting out a fierce, determined cry as she pushed against the pain, against the ghosts of her past, against the fear that had haunted her for months.

Then, cutting through the sterile hum of the hospital monitors, came the most glorious sound in the universe.

A sharp, healthy, defiant cry.

“It’s a boy,” the doctor announced, smiling broadly as he lifted a tiny, squirming, crying infant wrapped in a warm blue blanket and placed him directly onto Elizabeth’s chest.

Elizabeth sobbed, looking down at her son—with his dark hair and tiny, perfect fingers—and then looked up at Alessandro.

Alessandro leaned down, burying his face in the crook of her neck, weeping tears of pure, unadulterated joy as he wrapped his arms around both of them, sealing their broken pieces together into a family that nothing in this world could ever tear apart.

Outside the hospital window, the dark Chicago night finally gave way to the first golden rays of a brand-new dawn.
