Chapter 10 - The Beginning

A year later, the spring flowers were in full bloom across the sprawling gardens of the Marchetti-DeLuca estate.
There were no high-society phonies, no corrupt politicians, and no syndicate rivals in attendance. Just a small, warm gathering of people who mattered: my mother, beaming proudly from the front row with Barnaby the cat safely asleep in her lap; Marcus and the core security team standing respectfully near the garden archway; and Julian and Mrs. Higgins, who had flown in from Chicago just for the occasion.
I stood before the floral archway wearing a breathtaking, simple gown of ivory silk—no heavy jewels, no ostentatious displays of wealth, just pure elegance and peace.
Vincent waited for me at the end of the aisle, wearing a classic black tuxedo, his expression stripped of all the cold armor he usually wore for the outside world. When I reached his side, he took my hands in his, his grip warm, steady, and unbreakable.
"Do you, Vincent DeLuca, take this woman to be your equal, your partner, and your wife?" the officiant asked clearly.
"I do," Vincent said without a single second of hesitation, his eyes locked onto mine with absolute devotion.
"And do you, Emily Dawson, take this man to be your partner, your equal, and your husband?"
I smiled, feeling the complete, beautiful weight of my past finally fall away into the afternoon breeze. "I do."
When the rings were exchanged and the officiant pronounced us husband and wife, Vincent pulled me into his arms and kissed me deeply, sealing a union born from a moment of cruelty, but forged in strength, courage, and unconditional love.
Later that evening, as the stars twinkled brightly across the New York skyline, I stood on the grand balcony of our home, watching the city lights flicker in the distance.
Vincent stepped out behind me, wrapping his arms securely around my waist and pulling me close against his chest.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. DeLuca?" he whispered warmly against my neck.
I smiled, resting my hands over his. "I was just thinking about how strange life is. One cruel sentence in a restaurant can change everything."
May you like
Vincent rested his chin on my shoulder, looking out over the horizon. "It wasn't the cruel sentence that changed your life, Emily. It was the moment you decided you were worth fighting for."
I turned in his arms, wrapping my arms around his neck and kissing him softly. The past was behind us, our kingdom was secure, and our future stretched out endlessly before us—bright, unbroken, and entirely our own.
