Chapter 7 - The Digital Counter-Offensive

By midnight, the war had moved from the physical streets to the digital ether.

We were sitting in Vincent’s private study. The room was illuminated only by the cool blue glow of three large computer monitors displaying complex financial data, offshore routing ledgers, and encrypted communication logs.

Marcus stood beside the desk, tapping rapidly on a mechanical keyboard. "The financial board strike has already hit, Boss. Viktor used his political ties to freeze three of our secondary shipping accounts in the Swiss banks."

Vincent didn't look stressed. He was leaning back in his leather chair, swirling a glass of amber bourbon, his eyes fixed on the primary monitor. "He thinks freezing bank accounts in Switzerland will slow us down. He doesn't realize those accounts were dead weights designed to be sacrificed."

I sat across the desk, wearing a soft gray cashmere sweater, reviewing a separate tablet containing the forensic audit files I had quietly pulled from Bellini’s corporate database weeks ago.

"Vincent," I said, leaning forward. "Look at this routing code."

He turned his chair toward me immediately. "What did you find?"

"Viktor didn't just freeze your Swiss accounts through political favors. He used a shell company registered under an alias: Vance Global Logistics," I pointed to the screen. "That’s the exact same shell company Arthur Ashford used to funnel municipal kickbacks before his empire collapsed in Chicago."

Vincent’s eyes narrowed. He leaned in close beside me, his shoulder brushing mine. "Arthur Ashford? You think Viktor is partnering with the remnants of the Ashford syndicate?"

"It’s not just a partnership," I said, tapping the screen to pull up a series of transaction timestamps. "Look at the dates. Every time Viktor moves funds through these offshore accounts, the transaction bounces through a secondary server located right here in Manhattan—a server owned by a public relations firm managed by..."

I paused, the realization dawning on me.

"Managed by Vanessa," Vincent finished quietly. "Tyler’s fiancée."

I stared at him in astonishment. "Vanessa isn't just a socialite dating a jerk. She’s been acting as a financial launderer and corporate spy for Viktor’s network."

Marcus let out a low whistle from across the room. "Well, that explains how Viktor knew about our movements at Bellini's. Tyler proposed to Vanessa at that exact restaurant because she planted him there to monitor your shifts, Boss."

The puzzle pieces clicked into place with terrifying precision. The cruel remarks, the deliberate humiliation, the viral video—none of it had been a random coincidence. It had been an engineered setup designed to draw Vincent out, capture him on camera, and destabilize his emotional control by targeting the woman he had been quietly watching for eight months.

"They thought they were setting a trap for us," I whispered, a cold, sharp determination replacing any lingering fear. "They didn't realize they just handed us the keys to destroy them."

Vincent looked at me, a profound, blazing mix of awe and fierce pride in his dark eyes. He reached across the desk, covering my hand with his.

"What do you want to do with them, Emily?" he asked softly.

I looked at the screen, watching the digital trails of Viktor, Vanessa, and Tyler intersect in a web of illegal wire transfers, tax evasion, and corporate espionage.

"Let's not call the police," I said, a slow, dangerous smile touching my lips. "Let's do what we do best. Let's ruin their empire."
