Chapter 6 - Blood on the Docks

The night air over Pier 44 was thick with the smell of diesel exhaust, salt water, and impending violence.

The black Mercedes van rolled silently into the loading bay of Warehouse B, the headlights off. Inside sat Viktor, Leo, four of their most elite enforcers, and Nora Kane.

Through the reinforced glass of the second-floor office, they could see shadows moving across the lower floor—Frank Marcone’s enforcers, cutting through the security shutters with heavy industrial blowtorches. Sparks showered down like fireworks against the dark concrete floor.

"They brought thirty men," Leo murmured, checking the magazine of his submachine gun with a soft click. "It's a full-scale assault."

Viktor turned his gaze toward Nora, who was calmly unzipping a heavy black duffel bag on the steel table. Inside weren't just medical supplies anymore. Alongside the surgical kits and pressure bandages sat two suppressed Glock pistols and a tactical radio earpiece.

"Stay here, Nora," Viktor commanded, his voice dropping into its most lethal register. "When I clear the floor, Leo will drive you to the airstrip. A jet is waiting to take you to Zurich."

Nora didn't look up as she strapped a holster around her thigh, sliding a sleek 9mm pistol into place with practiced ease. She had spent the last three months learning from the best tacticians in the underworld. She wasn't running anymore.

"I didn't pull you out of a sinking car just to play damsel in distress, Viktor," Nora said, locking eyes with him. "You needed a nurse that night. Tonight, you need a partner."

Viktor stared at her, a profound mix of shock and burning, undeniable respect flashing in his dark eyes. He reached out, his large hand cupping the back of her neck, pulling her close enough to press a hard, fierce kiss against her forehead.

"God help anyone who stands in your way," Viktor whispered.

A second later, the front security shutter of the warehouse blew inward with a deafening explosion of steel and fire.

The trap was sprung.
