Chapter 7 - A New Dawn at Le Ciel

Months passed, and the underworld of Chicago underwent a permanent paradigm shift.
The Vance syndicate maintained its absolute grip on the city’s commerce, but the ruthless cruelty that had once defined its enforcement softened around the edges, guided by an unspoken code of protection for the vulnerable.
Le Ciel reopened under a revolutionary new concept—part high-end dining establishment, part community foundation, offering meals and financial support to those struggling on the streets, run entirely under Mabel’s compassionate supervision.
On a crisp autumn morning exactly one year after the incident beneath the gold awning, Mabel stood outside the front doors of the restaurant, watching the morning rush hour unfold.
A sleek black sedan pulled up quietly to the curb.
Damian stepped out, dressed in a sharp charcoal coat, carrying a fresh, warm loaf of rosemary bread wrapped in paper. He walked up the marble steps, stopping right in front of her with a questioning look in his dark eyes.
“Are you planning to share that, or is that all for you?” Mabel asked, crossing her arms with a playful smirk.
Damian chuckled, extending the bread toward her. “I figured a reminder of where we started was appropriate.”
Mabel took the bread, resting her hand over his. The dishwater burns on her hands were long gone, healed and replaced by the quiet confidence of a woman who owned her destiny.
Damian reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear, his thumb tracing her cheekbone.

“Come inside,” Damian murmured against the autumn breeze. “Your restaurant is waiting.”
Mabel smiled, stepping through the glass doors with him by her side, leaving the cold streets behind forever, knowing that her act of kindness in the rain had not only saved a stranger—it had built an unbreakable kingdom.
