Chapter 9 - The Golden Horizon

The wedding was not a grand, society-page spectacle filled with five hundred corrupt politicians and hostile corporate executives.

It was held in the very same family chapel where the nightmare had nearly ended—only now, the gothic stone arches were draped in thousands of white jasmine blossoms, filling the air with the sweet, clean scent of new beginnings.

There were no press cameras. No bodyguards with hidden earpieces.

Just a small, intimate gathering of trusted estate staff, federal prosecutor Miller standing proudly as a witness, and little Lena—now wearing a matching ivory flower-girl dress with a silver hawk locket resting against her chest—sprinkling white rose petals down the stone aisle.

When Sophia walked down the aisle on the arm of an old family friend who had traveled from her hometown, Lorenzo stood at the altar waiting for her. He wore a classic black tuxedo, his tall frame relaxed, his amber eyes fixed on her with an expression of absolute, unshakeable reverence.

As she reached his side, he took her hand in his, his warm fingers interlocking securely with hers.

“You look breathtaking,” Lorenzo murmured softly as the minister began the invocation.

“You clean up nicely for a shipping tycoon,” Sophia whispered back with a cheeky smile.

They exchanged vows not with rehearsed corporate bullet points, but with simple, fierce promises of loyalty, protection, and unconditional love. And when the minister pronounced them husband and wife, Lorenzo pulled her into a deep, lingering kiss that made the small congregation applaud warmly while little Lena cheered aloud from the front pew.

The reception was held out in the courtyard beneath a canopy of twinkling fairy lights strung through the weeping willows.

Laughter echoed across the marble terrace. Staff and family danced together without regard to old hierarchies or rigid rules. For the first time in half a century, the Moretti estate was truly a home.
