Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The morning sun over Westchester rose clear, brilliant, and unblemished by clouds. It poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Ventresca estate, bathing the grand foyer, the mahogany staircases, and the rose gardens in a warm, golden radiance.

Inside the private dining room, Elena Ventresca sat at the head of the long oak table, her posture straight, her silver hair pinned back with absolute perfection. A fresh crystal glass of water sat beside her plate, and next to it lay her silver pill organizer, resting securely in its proper place.

Luca sat to her right, reviewing a tablet containing the morning’s shipping manifests and port security reports. The storm of the previous night felt like a lifetime away, erased by the swift, surgical efficiency that defined the Ventresca name.

The double doors swung open quietly.

Nora entered, carrying a silver tray bearing a steaming pot of Earl Grey tea and a fresh plate of lemon scones—Elena’s favorite. She moved with her characteristic grace, her gray dress immaculate, her new silver key ring resting securely against her belt.

She placed the tray down on the table with absolute precision, pouring a cup of tea for the matriarch without a single drop spilling.

“Thank you, Nora,” Elena said, her dark eyes softening with genuine warmth as she offered a rare, beautiful smile.

“You’re very welcome, Elena,” Nora replied smoothly.

She turned to step back, but Luca’s voice stopped her in her tracks.

“Nora.”

She paused, looking down at the billionaire.

Luca raised his coffee cup in a subtle, respectful salute. “The logistics report for the North Atlantic shipping lanes just came through. Zero delays. Every container is accounted for.”

Nora smiled—a small, knowing smile that acknowledged the double meaning behind his words.

“That’s because the system was finally cleared of bad cargo, Mr. Ventresca,” Nora said evenly.

Luca inclined his head, a ghost of a smile touching his lips.

Outside, beyond the iron gates, the world of politics, money, and crime continued to turn in its endless, violent circle. But inside the Ventresca estate, the fires were burning bright, guarded by hands that could not be bought, broken, or fooled by a pretty face.

The empire was safe. And for the first time in a very long time, the master of the house knew exactly who was standing beside him in the dark.
