Chapter 10 - The Empire We Built

The spring sun shone brilliantly over the rolling lawns of the Gold Coast estate, warming the stone pathways and casting a golden glow across the water.
In the sunlit courtyard, Madeleine stood by the grand stone fountain, wearing an effortless white linen dress, watching the light dance across the ripples.
Footsteps approached from behind, and a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped securely around her waist, pulling her back against a warm, solid chest. A chin rested comfortably on her shoulder.
“Penny for your thoughts, CEO,” Lorenzo murmured against her neck, pressing a soft kiss to her skin.
Madeleine leaned back into him, resting her hands over his arms.
“I was just thinking about that basement,” Madeleine confessed softly. “The smell of garlic, the flickering yellow lamp, and Matteo Rizzi standing there looking down at me like I was nothing.”
Lorenzo’s arms tightened around her instinctively, his expression darkening for a fraction of a second at the mention of the capo who had long since vanished from the earth.
“He was a fool,” Lorenzo said fiercely, his voice dropping into a low, protective rumble. “He had no idea what kind of storm he was inviting into his life.”
Madeleine turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck, looking up into his stormy gray eyes with a deep, unbreakable devotion.
“He was,” Madeleine agreed, a triumphant smile curving her lips. “Because if he hadn't insulted me that night... I might never have found out how powerful I really am.”

Lorenzo smiled—a devastating, warm expression that belonged to no one in the world except her. He leaned down, capturing her lips in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed the past away forever.
Around them, the empire they had built stood tall, unbreakable, and entirely their own—governed not by fear, but by absolute intellect, unyielding strength, and a ledger that could never be broken.
