Chapter 7 - The Blueprint of Tomorrow

Back in Asheville, the autumn leaves had turned brilliant shades of amber and crimson, carpeting the rolling hills surrounding the Vance estate.
The nursery was finally finished—not with a climbing gym, but with soft sage-green walls, white wainscoting, and a towering bookshelf filled with classic literature and children's fables.
Grace stood in the center of the room, folding tiny cotton onesies and placing them neatly into a cedar dresser drawer. The door opened quietly, and Marcus walked in, holding a small, hand-carved wooden rocking chair.
"Found this down in the old workshop behind the carriage house," Marcus said, setting the chair gently by the window. "Dad made this for Julian when he was a baby. Then it sat in storage for thirty years. Figured your little one deserves a proper heirloom."
Grace walked over, running her hand along the smooth, polished cherry wood. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "It's beautiful, Marcus. Thank you."
Marcus awkwardly scratched the back of his neck, a rare flush of bashfulness crossing his rugged features. "Hey... you know we've got your back, Gracie. Always did. Always will. If anyone ever tries to bring a dark cloud near this room again, they have to get through three very large, very annoyed older brothers first."
Grace smiled, wrapping her arms around his waist and burying her face against his broad chest. "I know, big brother. I know."
Just then, Christian poked his head into the room, holding a ringing smartphone. "Grace, phone call for you. Secure line. It's an architect in downtown Charlotte regarding the community wellness center project."
Grace took the phone, pressing it to her ear. "This is Grace Vance."
"Ms. Vance, this is Director Harrison from the municipal planning board," a crisp, professional voice came through the speaker. "We reviewed your structural designs for the South Boulevard community center. Not only has the zoning commission approved the permits unanimously, but the board would like to formally name the facility The Grace Vance Center for Family Recovery and Support."

Grace paused, looking out the window toward the majestic peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains where her family stood guard over her future.
"Thank you, Director," Grace said, her voice steady and full of quiet power. "I'd be honored."
