Chapter 10 - The Horizon

The sun began to set over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant golden glow across the Chicago skyline.
Adeline stood on the grand balcony of the Marchetti estate, looking out over the city where she had once been treated as an invisible servant, and which she now helped govern with wisdom, grace, and unshakable power.
Enzo stepped out behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist, pulling her close against his chest.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Marchetti?” he asked quietly, his breath warm against her neck.
“I was just thinking,” Adeline replied, resting her hands over his, “about how fragile high society really is. All it took was one riding crop, one cruel gesture, and a man willing to take off his coat to change our entire world.”
Enzo chuckled, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched the city lights flicker to life across the horizon.

Adeline turned in his arms, wrapping her arms around his neck and smiling up into his eyes. The past was behind them, the kingdom was secure, and their future stretched out endlessly before them, bright, unbroken, and entirely their own.
