Chapter 8 - The Renewal

Six months later, the grounds of the Marchetti estate looked entirely different.

The cold, intimidating marble corridors had been softened with warm floral arrangements, and the heavy iron gates remained open during the day, welcoming a new era of management. The domestic staff, once terrified of every shadow, now worked with quiet confidence and mutual respect.

In the grand garden behind the manor, a private ceremony was underway.

There were no senators, corrupt judges, or high-society phonies in attendance this time. Only a small, tightly knit circle of trusted friends, Marcus, Dr. Julian Vance, and Mrs. Higgins, who stood beaming near the flower-lined altar.

Adeline stood before the floral archway wearing a breathtaking, simple gown of ivory silk—no heavy jewels, no ostentatious displays of wealth, just pure elegance.

Enzo waited for her at the end of the aisle, wearing a classic black suit, his expression stripped of all the cold armor he usually wore for the outside world. When she reached his side, he took her hands in his, his grip warm and steady.

“Do you, Enzo Marchetti, take this woman to be your equal, your partner, and your wife?” the officiant asked clearly.

“I do,” Enzo said without hesitation, his eyes locked onto Adeline’s.

“And do you, Adeline Croft, take this man to be your partner, your equal, and your husband?”

Adeline smiled, feeling the complete weight of her past finally lift away into the afternoon breeze. “I do.”

When the rings were exchanged and the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Enzo didn't hesitate. He pulled Adeline into his arms and kissed her deeply, sealing a union born from an act of cruelty, but forged in strength, intellect, and absolute love.
