Chapter 5 - The Collapse of the Conspirators

The tension in suite 404 reached a boiling point. Julian’s face turned an ugly shade of purple as desperation replaced panic. He realized that the moment Dante walked out of this hospital room, his life, his freedom, and his empire would evaporate into ash.

With a sudden, frantic motion, Julian lunged toward the security guard standing closest to him, grabbing the heavy pistol from the man’s holster.

“Traitor!” Julian shrieked, swinging the barrel upward toward Dante’s chest. “If I go down, you go back into the ground permanently!”

Before Julian’s finger could even begin to squeeze the trigger, Dante moved with terrifying, preternatural speed. Two years of muscular atrophy vanished beneath a surge of pure, unadulterated adrenaline.

Dante closed the distance in a single stride, his large hand clamping down around Julian’s wrist with the crushing force of a hydraulic press.

A sharp, sickening crack echoed through the suite as Julian’s wrist bone fractured under the pressure.

Julian screamed in agony, the pistol slipping from his trembling fingers and clattering uselessly against the floor. Before he could double over, Dante’s other hand shot forward, grabbing Julian by the collar of his expensive designer suit and slamming him violently against the reinforced glass window overlooking the snowy mountain peaks.

The glass shuddered under the impact, spiderweb cracks radiating outward from the point of collision.

“You always were impatient, Julian,” Dante whispered directly into his brother’s ear, his voice dripping with icy venom. “You wanted my seat so badly. But you forgot one fundamental rule of the underworld: never strike the king unless you make sure his heart stops beating.”

Julian choked for air, his hands clawing uselessly at Dante’s forearm as his feet dangled slightly off the floor. “Dante... please... we’re family...”

“Family,” Dante repeated coldly. He released his grip, letting Julian crumple like a broken doll onto the cold marble floor, gasping and clutching his shattered wrist.

Dante turned his piercing gaze toward Dr. Alistair, who had dropped to his knees, pressing his palms flat against the floor in abject terror.

“Please, Mr. Vance!” Alistair wept openly, his professional composure completely shattered. “I was forced! Julian threatened my family! He said if I didn't alter your charts, my wife and children would—!”

“Save it for the federal prosecutors, Doctor,” Dante interrupted, his voice flat and absolute. He raised his hand and gestured toward the two remaining security guards, who immediately snapped to attention, their eyes fixed firmly on the floor in absolute submission.

“Take Julian and the doctor down to the sub-level holding facility,” Dante commanded, the authority in his voice leaving no room for argument. “Lock them in separate cells. Strip them of their accounts, their titles, and their communication privileges. Let them think about what it feels like to starve slowly in the dark.”

“Yes, Boss!” the guards barked in unison, moving swiftly to haul the sobbing, broken men out of the room.

Within seconds, the suite emptied of the conspirators, leaving only the soft hum of the surviving medical equipment and the gentle falling of snow outside the massive arched window.
